Frenectomy in Chicago

A frenectomy is the removal of a frenulum, which is a small fold of tissue that prevents the lip or tongue from moving too far. A frenectomy may be indicated for orthodontic patients and for those who suffer from gum recession. The location of the frenum varies from patient to patient.

Labial frenectomy is indicated when the tissue is inside the middle of the upper or lower lip. A lingual frenectomy is indicated when the tissue is under the tongue.

A frenectomy is a very common dental procedure performed on children and adults. At Dental Laser Center of Chicago, we utilized a dental laser to remove the tissue which allows for faster healing. The treatment is completed in one dental appointment.

Since, the frenectomy is done with laser it's less invasive most patients return to their daily activities the next day.
